An illustration of George Villiers dancing

Music, masque and murder at the Jacobean Court [Enfield, north London]

Date Sunday 01 June 2025
Time 15:00 to 16:00

Join us in exploring the fractious and ornate world of the 17th-century English court, as favourites and courtiers jostle for influence alongside ambassadors, patronage-seekers and potential suitors! All joined in the elaborate courts masques - a mixture of music, dance and allegory where suitability was made apparent by display. Songs and tunes [with period instruments used] will fit around readings by Lucy Hughes-Hallett from her recent biography of George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham [and notable dancer].
