'The Courtier and the Virtuoso' [Hampton]
Saturday 15 June 2024
19:00 to 21:00
Stephen Carpenter will play music from sixteenth-century Spain on the Spanish lute - the Vihuela.
The composers are [1] Josquin des Prez [1450/55 - 1521] - who was not Spanish but whose music was adapted, arranged and [as here] used as a basis for other compositions throughout Europe. [2] Luis de Milan [1500 - 1561]; and [3] Luis de Narvaez [fl. 1526 - 1549].

This concert is part of a regular series of early music performances held in the Georgian jewel of Garrick's Temple to Shakespeare [https://www.garrickstemple.org.uk], which sits by the Thames in Hampton.
Admission is always cheaper when booked in advance, and there are concessions for under-21s, students, the unemployed and volunteers at the venue. On the door, tickets cost £16 - with half price concessions for the same people.
Anyone able and willing to listen is welcome to come along, and there is no need to print this ticket as a record is kept at the front desk.
The painting is An Angel in Red with a Lute by de Predis [1455 - 1510], reproduce by kind permission of the National Gallery, London.
